Q&A with Shiva Rose
Founder of The Local Rose & Shiva Rose Beauty
Where are you today?
Under some Redwoods in my mothers garden in Northern Cal
What do you do for a living?
I'm an alchemist, writer and curator for my holistic lifestyle blog The Local Rose
Why are you doing it?
This path chose me when I needed to heal myself 8 years ago. I wanted to bring awareness to how healing our planet is integral to healing ourselves
Most prized possession?
I have had to leave material possessions a few times in my life. First as a child when we fled from Iran and later when I went through divorce. I've learned not to become too attached to material, however, if I had to choose maybe a few crystals, heart shaped rocks or photographs from my childhood
Favorite piece of clothing you own?
I love my Double Eleven green army Jacket! A few 1940's rayon dresses as well
Current regulars on the playlist?
Mantras by White Sun continuously, mix of old rock, old country, and blues. Modern bands like War on Drugs, Frazey Ford, Radiohead. Right when I'm in the car I'm on a Townes Van Zandt jag with some Van Morriosn sprinkled in.
Best gig you've been to?
The last Radiohead here in LA and Sigor Ros at Disney Hall
You invite any 3 people to lunch, living or past, who would join you?
My dad, my Grandpa and Tina Modotti
Best memory or memories?
Swimming in Kauai with my daughters among turtles. Having tea in the forest.
What are some of your environmentally friendly practices?
Eating food I grow. Composting. Buying from organic farmers. Eliminating plastic from my home. Recycling isn't really the way with plastic. Start taking mason jars to the market and buy bulk items.
What do you think about the state of the environment?
I feel like we are awakening. There is much to be pessimistic about, however, I see people beginning to realize our interconnectedness. The earth has more wisdom than we know.
