FABRIC & DETAILS

LOT # 062017

We found this fabric in downtown Los Angeles and love the cast of Indigo it has. When we rinsed it to remove the shrinkage in the fabric, it brought out the character of the cloth. It has good structure, has a dry hand to it and wears in really well.

Garment Details: Triple needle construction, chain stitching, 6 belt loops, zip fly, heavy weight pocket bags and a two tone thread color.

Conservation: By purchasing this product you are saving approximately 1775 gallons of water it takes to produce enough cotton to make a single jean. This huge amount of water is for the growing, harvesting, transporting, dyeing and finishing of the textile. You are also helping conserve enormous amounts of machine and human energy along with thousands of miles of transportation.

BERTO, ITALY

Berto Industria Tessile was founded in 1887 in Bovolenta, a small town in the province of Padua, from the entrepreneurial spirit of the two founding brothers Giuseppe and Egidio Berto. With a rich history in the textile world, beginning with boat sails back in the late 1800's, Berto is one of the oldest and most respected mills in the region.

Berto had several certifications of note, the Global Organic Textile Standard, Better Cotton Initiative (BCI) and GRS Certification. Berto also acknowledges the importance of eliminating hazardous substances from the production cycle, and in July 2016, signed the Detox commitment, promoted by Greenpeace, thus initiating an important improvement path.

In addition, Berto has 48 high energy efficiency chassis, which, with the same amount of fabric weaving, ensures a remarkable energy saving and a reduction of 81 tonnes per year of CO2. The company also installed a high-efficiency conditioning plant that has led to a halving of electricity and water consumption. The numbers show it; 5000 m3 of water and 475,200 kilowatts saved every year, with a consequent reduction of 252 tons of CO2. The replacement of all lighting with LED systems has also proven to be very important in terms of results; the reduction of energy consumption leads to a reduction of 98 tons of CO2 per year.
